SANWO-OLU DISTRIBUTES EMPOWERMENT TOOLS TO VULNERABLE, INDIGENT RESIDENTS

Restates Commitment to Creating #Greater Lagos Where Every Citizen Thrives

The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering inclusivity, economic empowerment, and poverty alleviation through the launch of the 2024 Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) Programme. This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), took place at De Blue Roof, Agidingbi-Ikeja, and serves as a testament to the administration’s vision of a #Greater Lagos.

Delivering the Governor’s address, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, highlighted that the programme is designed to provide vulnerable and indigent residents with the tools and resources needed to achieve self-reliance, improve their livelihoods, and foster economic growth.

Empowerment for a Brighter Future

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the success of the first edition of the MESI Programme earlier in the year paved the way for the second phase, which seeks to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit of Lagos residents. He stated:

“The initiative speaks volumes about the government’s commitment to creating opportunities, reducing poverty, and nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit that defines the people.”

The Governor underscored that the MESI Programme is not limited to financial aid but includes skill acquisition and capacity-building initiatives. By distributing a wide range of empowerment tools, the programme equips beneficiaries to transform their lives and contribute to the larger success of Lagos State.

Tools for Transformation

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, noted that the tools were meticulously selected to cater to diverse entrepreneurial needs. The distributed items include:

  • Stoning Machines
  • Pepper Grinders
  • Sewing Machines
  • Hair Dryers
  • Barbing Kits (Clippers, Sterilizers, Generators)
  • Standing Facial Steamers
  • Aluminum Cutting Machines
  • Two-Phase Burners with Cooking Pots and Cylinders
  • Cake Mixers
  • Welding Machines
  • Agricultural Supplies (Fertilizers, Knapsacks, Seeds)
  • Cash Grants

Call to Action for Lagos Youths

This programme serves as a reminder of the government’s commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left behind. However, the opportunity to benefit from such empowerment initiatives requires focus, dedication, and readiness. Lagos youths are encouraged to channel their energy positively and actively prepare themselves to take advantage of similar programmes in 2025.

“Your success contributes to the larger success of Lagos State,” Governor Sanwo-Olu reminded beneficiaries.

By seizing these opportunities and using the resources wisely, beneficiaries can inspire their communities, reduce poverty, and build a future where prosperity is attainable for all.

Lagos youths, let this serve as a motivation to remain focused, hardworking, and innovative. The vision of a #Greater Lagos is a collective effort, and with your commitment, the future holds endless possibilities.
