As the sun set on December 6th in Lekki, Lagos, a groundbreaking event unfolded at DCC. The launch of the Association of Christian Family Life Coaches (ACFLC) brought together thought leaders, policymakers, and family life advocates to address Nigeria’s growing family crises. Divorce, domestic violence, child neglect, and youth delinquency were the sobering themes of the day, but hope shone through as the ACFLC introduced its mission to strengthen families and, by extension, the nation.
Rebuilding Families, Rebuilding Society
Dr. Kingsley Okonkwo, the convener, captured the urgency of the initiative:
“Every broken home leaves a trail of vulnerable children and destabilized communities. The ACFLC is here to fill that gap, offering faith-based guidance and practical tools to navigate modern life’s pressures.”
Dr. Okonkwo’s sentiments resonated deeply as speakers highlighted the societal issues tied to family dysfunction, from domestic violence to strained parent-child relationships. The message was clear: strong families are the foundation of a stable society.
Collaboration as a Solution
Keynote speaker Rev. Albert Oduwole emphasized the importance of partnerships:
“Families don’t fail in isolation, and solutions can’t come from isolated efforts. ACFLC is fostering collaboration among government, faith-based institutions, and communities to ensure every family has access to counseling, education, and resources.”
The association outlined actionable steps to tackle these issues, including:
Celebrating Trailblazers in Family Advocacy
A highlight of the event was the recognition of individuals who have significantly impacted family life advocacy. Both living and posthumous honorees were celebrated for their dedication to improving marriages, parenting, and community building.
Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Barrister Ocholi reaffirmed ACFLC’s mission:
“We aim to ensure no family feels unsupported. Through counseling, workshops, and advocacy, we are committed to empowering families for generations to come.”
The event concluded with a resounding call for collaboration among all stakeholders—parents, educators, policymakers, and faith leaders. The ACFLC invited everyone to join its mission of rebuilding families through faith, innovation, and unity.
As the attendees dispersed, one thing was clear: this was not just another launch but the beginning of a movement to restore hope and strength to families across Nigeria.
